FIRST AID BXL – WORKSHOPS FOR EMERGING PERFORMING ARTISTS

Are you just starting out as an artist and do you have any questions on the substance of your work, or on practical matters? Don’t know where to start in order to carry out your artistic plans? On 23rd October you will have all your questions answered: VTi and Bâtard Festival are organising an afternoon of workshops for young artists. Performing arts experts offer explanations, handy tips, feedback and an answer to your most pressing questions.

MANAGE YOUR PROJECTS
Staff from the Agentschap Kunsten en Erfgoed and experts from the sector explain the subsidies available and other practical matters. What sort of grants and subsidies are there? How do you compile a subsidy application? This session will make everything clear.

DEVELOP YOUR ARTISTIC IDEAS
You undoubtedly have more than enough good ideas, but how do you convert them into a good plan? In this session we will explore the artistic/substantive section of subsidy applications in greater depth. Programme compilers and other experts offer feedback on ideas you intend to develop (for a presentation, a project proposal, a subsidy application, etc.).
!!! Participants are expected to mail an initial plan (max. 1 A4) to communicatie[@]vti.be before 19 Oct. These plans will provide the basis for the session.

MEET ARTS-LAB.BE
Arts workplaces are artistic laboratories that provide support for the career of the newly active artist. This First Aid BXL is a good opportunity to get to know these workplaces better. What are they? How do they differ from each other? What can they offer you?

NL – In Zennestraat 17, het voormalige labo van het ministerie van Economische Zaken, werd eind april 2009 een tijdelijke artistieke hub geopend. Tijdens BRXLBRAVO wordt er een gezamenlijk event ingezet met een cross-over van hedendaags werk van alle disciplines. Voor deze gelegenheid zullen verschillende kunstenwerkplaatsen bovenop de residerende organisaties het labo injecteren met meer experimentele artistieke besmettingen. Het platform kunstenwerkplaats.be zal er een speelse artistieke cartografie, die de linken tussen kunstenaars, organisaties en de stad visualiseert, opzetten en tonen.

FR – Dans la rue de la Senne 17, l’ancien laboratoire d’essai du Ministère des Affaires Economiques, un ‘hub’ artistique temporaire s’est ouvert fin avril 2009. Pendant BRXLBRAVO, une exposition-événement collective sera mise sur pied avec des œuvres contemporaines de toutes disciplines. Pour l’occasion, plusieurs laboratoires artistiques rejoindront les organisations résidentes dans le labo afin de lui injecter une dose supplémentaire de contaminations artistiques expérimentales. De plus, la plateforme lab-art.be réalisera une cartographie artistique, permettant de visualiser les liens existant entre les artistes, les organisations et la ville.

On Sunday 29 March, The Ever Mass Land will open its doors to the public. A perfect moment for you to discover ‘Playground 0.1.1,2’ a project by Isabelle Pauwelyn. On a land that currently lies fallow, we will set up a garden, where forgotten vegetables can grow, a playground, a performance space and meeting area.

We invite everyone to start the construction and the filling of the space with music (Niko Hafkenscheid, Miquel Casaponsa), movement (Coral Ortega), food, and so fort.

That Sunday 29 March is also the International Tree Climbing Day.  This seems to be the perfect moment to act upon the many ideas launched during the ‘Platform 3′ meeting on the first day of March – Baba Marta -  i.e., how to intersect with a tree hut and the surrounding area.
